Dear CC4A members and friends,

Thanks to all of you who made it out to vote yesterday, despite the chaos of the past 11 days.  With only 28% of eligible voters casting ballots, your vote really counted this year.

We are happy to report that eight of nine CC4A endorsed candidates were elected, reflecting important wins for Avon’s schools and students. Following are some key election highlights:

CC4A member and endorsed candidate Brian Stoll (D) was elected to the Board of Finance.  An accomplished financial professional and active community volunteer, Brian will be a welcome addition to this important board.  Incumbent and board chair Tom Harrison, along with newcomer Dean Hamilton, both Republicans, were also elected.  Regrettably, CC4A-endorsed candidate Brett Eisenlohr (D) did not win re-election.

Former CC4A board member and endorsed candidate Wendy Howard (D) was elected to the Board of Education.  Wendy's long active involvement as a volunteer leader in our schools prepares her well to advocate for Avon's students.  She joins three other newcomers, all Republicans: Brian Glenn, who was endorsed by CC4A, and Ames Shea and Jeff Bernetich.

David Pena, a tireless public servant endorsed by CC4A, won re-election along with Republicans Mark Zacchio and Doug Evans (both endorsed by CC4A) and Pamela Samul.  Republican newcomer Chris May won the fifth seat vacated by incumbent Bill Shea who did not win re-election.

Virtually all of the vote counts were very close, suggesting a need for middle ground governing. For example, only 87 votes separated newcomer Brian Stoll from long-time incumbent and board chair Tom Harrison, the lead vote-getter for the BOF. For all vote tallies and complete election details, please visit http://avon.patch.com/articles/avon-election-2011-results.

Now that the public has spoken, we move forward to do what is best for the citizens of Avon.
We congratulate all of last night's winners and wish them well as they tackle the challenges ahead.

Sincerely,
the CC4A leadership team
